WHERE WE ARE

The Locanda del Pilone is on the top of the hill known as 'Madonna di Como', five kilometres from Alba, at 422 metres asl.  This magical place has an interesting history. The Celts, who lived here from the 4th century B.C. adored many gods including Como, the god of banquets. The Romans arrived in the 1st century A.D. and the name Como came to indicate a procession of young dancers in honour of Bacchus, the god of wine.  Tradition would have it, and its history would seem to confirm,  that the hill was cultivated from the earliest times, with vines playing an important role.
